Named for Henri Matisse's last painting, "Large Red Interior" by A. S. Maulucci opens April 27 at Stonington Community Center, 28 Cutler Street, and continues April 28, May 4 and 5 at 8pm with a 2pm matinee on April 29. The play follows Matisse and his arch rival, Pablo Picasso, through the last ten years of Matisse's life. Complicating matters further are separate desires by each man for Matisse's model and assistant, Lydia Delectorskaya, a lovely and mysterious Russian emigre. Despite different artistic credos and rivalry each artist ultimately validates the other's work. Produced by Stonington Players and directed by Christine Gunther, the production features the Players' popular cabaret seating and refreshments. Donations are $10. For reservations call 860-287-7393.
