POSTPONED: MASALA POPCORN: SHORT FILMS FROM INDIA

Following the success of its Bollywood Night in 2011, Hygienic Art is excited to present another Indian film evening as part of its Summer Flickers programming in 2012.

“Masala Popcorn,” held on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 from 6:30pm, will showcase three short films made by directors from India, introduced by film scholar Dr. Yogini Joglekar.

The short films are: The Eclipse of Taregna (Director: Rakesh Chaudhary, 2011), Do Pahar (Two Moments; Director: Shazia Shrivastava, 2011), and Fatakra (Fireworks, Director: Soham Mehta, 2011).

In addition, the evening will feature henna art, food, and a discussion with director Rakesh Chaudhary.
The Eclipse of Taregna (Dir. Rakesh Chaudhary, 2011)
Mr. Pathak is worn out by life, and indifferent to NASA's announcement that the best place to view the upcoming solar eclipse will be his town Taregna. However, his grandson Roshan's curiosity for the celestial event of a lifetime is boundless. When Pathak finally notices that Roshan needs a father figure, he can no longer remain a bystander to life.

Do Pahar (Afternoon; Dir. Shazia Shrivastava and Sharifa Roy, 2011)
Do Pahar is about an unlikely bond that develops between an old woman and a hit man. As the afternoon progresses in wait for hit man Bilal's target, the elderly Sudha kindles in him humanity and a few forgotten memories of his childhood while he, in turn, instills in her a newfound fortitude.

Fatakra (Fireworks, Dir. Soham Mehta, 2011)
Naveen left India to chase his dreams in America. Three years and a recession later, his wife and son finally join him. FATAKRA ("Firecracker") tells the story of the sparks that fly on their first day together as dreams collide with reality.
