Hygienic is proud to present its own resident artist POLA ESTHER and her MIXED SIGNALS. With an extraordinary group of artists from around the world and right next door, this show brings together, light, vibration, paint and the power of black and white and neon. This exhibit features eclectic new work from artists POLA ESTHER, BRIAN STEPHENS, MATTIAS LUNDBLAD AND MUNDY HEPBURN. With work as diverse as its artist, this show is not to be missed. Oh, and don't forget to put on your 3D glasses……. see you at the show.
POLA ESTHER
I'm seduced by the elegant aesthetic of black and white images and the spiritual simplicity of the black and white nature of things and people. But than...I think oh no, how boring, so boring that it makes me feel like I want to scream. The need of the scream brings to my mind neon colors and vibrations. So much better! Yes, of course everything could be quite easier if things were black and white. There would be no social war, no private miscommunications, no mixed signals......boys will be boys and girls will be girls and we can always find the exit. Oh yeah!...Why?...
So good there is the neon, the third dimension, the magic, the unknown, the forbidden, the secret, the illusion…… Oh really? Well, actually I don know if its good or bad or ugly, if its black or white or neon, but I don't have to know. I just want to experience the beauty inside and out, enjoy it whatever it is and have fun. I also know that there is this place of tranquility where one can escape, where flowers and fishes don't speak, some will call it a dream.
This is her confession:
Nowadays she chooses fantasy over reality. Well, that is what she says, but I would rather suggest not to believe her. She also says that she came from Poland and the Pope kissed her and that made her who she is but who knows? Actually she would rather dance with you than talk with you so stop asking questions and go and check her photo installations. She hopes you like them and want to tell your friends about them and even take them home or put them in a museum.
BRIAN KEITH STEPHENS
Do not put anything in it unless you feel it.
Brian has exhibited in many cities with fabulous names like New York, Boston, San Francisco, Berlin, Cologne, Aachen, Duren, Paris, Montpellier, Copenhagen.
MATTIAS LUNDBLAD
Walks around in the world to steal little pieces of light and time, rob them of their color, and frame them. He sometimes lives in New London, sometimes in Stockholm, Sweden.
MUNDY HEPBURN
Makes blown glass forms and fills them with rare gas mixtures such as helium, neon argon, krypton, and xenon. He activates the glass with high frequency static electricity, causing it to come alive with a kaleidoscope of swirling patterns of multicolored light. The science behind this kind of work is based on the same principle as the TV set and the fluorescent light. Because so little power is used, only about 50 watts, they will last a very long time. Early ones, 22 years old, still work.
