Event Description

Hygienic Art has been supporting local and regional artists since it opened it's doors in 2000. "Neighbors" showcases Hygienic's very own artists in residence.

This group brought you "Greetings" in 2010 and "Migration" in the winter of 2011, now they're back.
The Hygienic Resident Artists proudly present "NEIGHBORS-DIRTY LAUNDRY."

Six artists, six studios and six very different lives.This show is a multi-disciplinary exhibition,
showcasing these artists at varying degrees in their careers.

Kim, Troy, Patti, Susan, Travis, and Ania aka "Pola Esther" make up this eclectic group.

Kim Abraham continues to explore color and medium, adding to her body of work a new series in pastels.
She recently opened her own small gallery on Green Street, dubbed Kitchen Gallery, and was one of the participating artists in the "One Place Many Cultures" mural project.

Showing in the Underground Gallery, will be artist Susan Hickman. Susan has been a Hygienic resident artist for over 2 years.
During her time here she has been experimenting with large scale acrylic paintings, mixed media collage and installation.
She recently got accepted in the juried exhibition New England Collective III in Boston at the Galatea Gallery.
She joined the Hygienic as Program Curator in June and is looking forward to working with artists from all over the region.

Troy Zaushny along with collaborator Michael McNabney were chosen to participate in "Wall to Wall - the New London Mural Walk" made possible from a grant from Connecticut's "City Canvases" initiative. The painting "The Hard Hat Painters" was completed in early July on the Carriage House wall on Golden St.

Troy is currently planning for his month long residency at the University of Addis Ababa beginning in September. He will be teaching art workshops there, as well as providing some teacher training and art instruction in the Tesfa Foundation school system.

Travis is the newest member of the resident group, having been here just a year. His meticulous drawings are an obsession for him. He describes his work for "Neighbors" as an "evolution." He is excited for this exhibition and also his first solo exhibition that he is planning for early next year.

Pola Esther is a spy. A photo spy. She applies photography to arrange interactive installations. She likes to touch things, so just looking at them is often not enough for her. She likes to move more than sit still, so she wants you to play with her, to participate in the spying games. She uses her close surroundings and familiar feelings to tell stories about humans.

Patti is currently a freelance graphic designer specializing in branding and custom print design.
She has a love for art and design and a drive to create with a silly spirit and a serious passion for typography, patterns, and luxurious paper.
