Studio Tour paranoia, Hygienic Penis art and country life.

Over the last several years in small communites all over New Hampshire, artists' studio tours have become all the rage. Usually timed to coincide with the holiday gift buying season, these tours give towns a chance to show off their artists and their artists a chance to show off their wares. The idea is the group of artists pool some resources, print up some maps, do a little P.R. hang a numbered sign on their home or studio on the day of the tour and Viola! A fleet of Massachussets license plat… Continue

Just because you're paranoid

... does't mean there ISN'T a CSI investigating you.

Since the right wing declared "culture war" (read that as a war on culture) many of us artistic liberal types have felt slightly at odds with some mainstream culture. Particularly that barometer of public rage, the TV cop show.
As people, who because of the nature of their work tend to lead independent, slightly isolated lives it is easy to pick up the "outsider" tag as an artist. In the past this was viewed somewhat romantically, the "La Boh… Continue

Hi Jon,
Thanks for the comment on my work. No I haven't tried flamework but it's on my wish list of skills to learn and experiment with.

Hey, thanks for your generous comments, I actually consider myself a transitional artist, not abstract, not representational but bordering on the edge of both.

As far as the Seaport goes, I found that they had changed directions and I did not get the memo. I left them three years ago. This is great to bump into you again.

Hello Jon. I think we may know one another? Maybe from the Seaport some years ago? If not chalk it up to the failing memory of an old coot.

I appreciate your friendship Jon. Frank Zappa conceived of God as a maroon sofa. I am not so ambitious. Since hearing from you my goal in life is to find a couch that matches my paintings. K

PS: Venice is great huh?

John, first, your comment made me laugh, always a good thing. The piece has been noticed and commented on for YEARS. It's the one you entered in one of the shows, maybe 1990 or so. A marker drawing of a the head of a reclining woman (looks like she's been awakened in bed) with a frightened expression on her face, There is a hand on her shoulder that can't be hers. Since I'm addicted to crime novels and de-sensitized from reading them for years, it doesn't scare me at all, but it's been disturbing to some other people who live in a world of nice.
Anyhoo, glad to hear from you and if I come to the show, I'll be looking for you.

Yes, John. And I still have your framed drawing, "Itisgoodtobealoneitisgoodtobealoneisitgoodtobealone..." on my wall here in Hartford. Nice to know you are still around!

Hey, Jon - actually, no, I shan't be here. I have Beasts going to the
Children's Hygienic on sat. afternoon, but I am going into NYC to take the van to Ana, who is moving that weekend from one place in Brooklyn to another, and also because I have a rehearsal in the city for a perf. that will be on 2/7 (I am dancing in a dance co! SITU). Sooo, I shall be away from Friday am to Sunday late, probably exactly when you are here? I am so disappointed - would have loved to see you. Ahh, see that reference to you as the stand up comic at W and C some 25 years back. Yikes. xo m
