I'm no art teacher but I can give you a crash course so you can get started,
Get a canvas and some acrylic white and some black. All you do with Black and White is just lighting the paint down. To do shades you can use a little bit of Black in some water its like a dark glaze, it will be like a shadow, get an old Family photo that's in B & W and study the tones and shading in it, that will give you a good idea how you can apply that in a painting. Sara go to my site and look at some of my work. Jennifer and little one is an awesome example of shading and color tone in a Black and White painting. So just try doing the Brick in the back ground, with acrylics you just need water for clean up.
