Thoughts on Art

Gradations attract, enfold and please.Curves are more sensual than straights. The obvious is enchanted by the hidden.Protrusions are contrasted with indentions.Patterns fascinate, involve and deceive.Repetitions are to forms what beats are to music.Symmetry mirrors and honours the human body.Whorls and vortexes tempt and seduce.Colour, pure or muted, is its own magic.Strong contrasts provide drama and excitement.Soft edges invite touch and caress.Disappearing acts create mystery and…See More

‘FINGER NAIL SALOONS AND STARVING ARTISTS’

‘FINGER NAIL SALOONS AND STARVING ARTISTS’Is the ear half on or half off?(Read using your most credible ‘Al Pacino voice’)What would it be like if Vincent van Gogh were alive today? I would be willing to say that everything would be exactly the same EXCEPT – that he would have better medication. If he could afford it. Everything else would be the same. The painting would be the same. The obscurity would be the same. The unappreciated genius would be the same. Perhaps he would be…See More

The Line

The mere line is one of the most abstract things imaginable. With it any aspect of the universe may be portrayed. From the most microscopic life forms to the farthest reaches of space, all by the simple line, which in itself is nothing, and in fact, in actual reality does not even exist.

P.S. Forgot to mention... I have a postcard hanging in my cubicle at work that is of one of your paintings! It's the one with the person dressed in an animal print in front of a mirror. Reminds me of better times.

Hey Dave,

I ended up in Florida 4 years ago because things weren't working out so well in CT. I sold the house in Pawcatuck and bought a little cottage in Fernandina Beach. I'm working as a newspaper reporter for the local paper. It's pretty here, but very conservative. Too many retired people, too many Bible thumpers, too many rich, smug liberals, etc. I miss the art scene in New London. They have artists here, but it's mostly the "lady painter" types, and edginess is frowned upon. I would love to visit (or even move back to) CT, but finances are definitely holding me back.

What are you doing now? I actually bought some oil paints and such, but have not gotten up the will to start painting, although I was a pretty good artist in high school.

Hope to hear from you again soon!

Angie
