Hygienic Arts

For so long . . . How did I not know about this special little gem of a place right here in my own backyard? Granted, I live in central Connecticut but short of being under a rock for the past thirty odd years, you’d think I would have heard SOMETHING!

There is a very magical vibe happening in New London and while it’s been going on for quite some time now, it’s brand spanking new to me. My tribe arrived in the wee hours of a frosty January morning. Our meager art offerings in hand, Granddaughter in tow, Sara our daughter, her boyfriend and my Husband all shuffled into the artful throngs of Hygienics’ “Salon des Independants” without a clue what to expect. We were immediately greeted with warm smiling faces. The energy was abuzz with excitement and a fervor to get oneself signed in and set up while the getting was still good!

It’s come one come all but you better come quick if you want to get your art hung at eye level. We got lucky and were able to hang our pieces close by one another and in decent spots. Afterward I wondered why we felt we needed to hang our work near each other. Perhaps our paintings could lean on each other if they felt alone in this wondrous new place they had never been before . . . or maybe we were just simply two newbs who felt better together bumbling around with wire and hangers in what was to be our very first time hanging our work just like the “real Artists” do. So the art is hung and now we’re both hooked.

We can’t wait to do it again.

The Hygienic is indeed magic (once you've learned to spell 'Hygienic') and the art work is superb, the web-site first class and the people all so friendly. It's a great place for a buddiing artist to start and as I always say, in regards to art as well as life, "You don't know what you can do until you do it!"
