Hygienic Art

We come from a long line of Artists, how long the line goes back we can’t be sure. I like to imagine that our ancient ancestors were scratching out images on cave walls but who the hell knows . . .
How pretentious . . . I know!!

The Facts;
My Father was a portrait painter and loved to sketch and he was good! I was given paint at a very early age and was encouraged by my Grandmother to draw and paint. I did the same with my children and now my Daughter has already had one of her pieces hanging in the Wadsworth Atheneum. She’s the only one in the family with any formal training and you can tell. She was juried into the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts. Her work is amazing and while you might think I have to say that being her mother, I don’t. In fact I’m often her harshest critic.
The truth is; she has the technical skills of a master with the patience of a nineteen-year-old. When she gets the chance to slow down and delve into her creative pool . . . well I can’t even imagine what gifts she’ll give to the world. What I do know is, they’ll be wonderful.

Check out some of her work here at the site (Sara Coniam) and I’m hoping she’ll show at the upcoming event at Hygienic.

Hi Amy,
My experience is diametrically opposite as far as being an early age artist...my greatest disappointment as a youth was being a failure as an artist...couldn't sketch, paint or anything though God knows I tried. Wanted to be a musician as well but couldn't put one note after the other though I attempted piano, violin, clarinet, guitar and jew's harp (I pretended to play the harmonica). My early age hero was of course Mickey Mantle but when we played ball at recess at school, I prayed the ball would not be hit to me! I struck out at bat 5021 times successively unsuccessfully. I also prayed my turn at bat would not come up and hoped the rain would come so the game would be over.
So when I discovered digital photography a few years ago, my dreams of being an artist were beginning to come true! (to be continued...on my blog)

I think 'patience' was meant to be ironic (?)
